Guy O. Williams to officially join DWEJ staff

“Guy is the perfect leader at a perfect time in DWEJ’s history to take the helm,” said our Board Chair,  Ric Geyer, managing partner at  4731 Solutions. “He has the proven record of success, dedication to our mission and support of those inside and outside of the organization. I look forward to working with Guy in his new role and am confident that he’ll further our mission of creating clean, healthy, and thriving communities in Michigan by tackling environmental problems close to home.”

The creation of this new position is driven by our desire to utilize organizational best practices. For the past five years, as special advisor to the Board of Directors, Guy has provided leadership that has positioned DWEJ to play a major role in Detroit’s transformation to a global model of sustainable redevelopment and a place where all thrive in environmental, economic and social health.

“I’m honored to join the DWEJ staff and look forward to working hard every day to make a difference in the lives of Detroiters,” said Guy. “In light of the Flint water crisis, unacceptable air quality in Southwest Detroit and political posturing to block action on climate change, we have a lot of work to do. I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work.”

Named 2014 Michigan Green Leader by the Detroit Free Press, Guy currently serves on the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy Board of Directors and Chair Emeritus of the Great Lakes Leadership Academy Board of Governors. A Director on the Boards of Eastern Market Corporation and Pesticide Action Network North America, he also serves on the Advisory Board for the Center for Urban Responses to Environmental Stressors and the Great Lakes Integrated Sciences and Assessment Center.

A frequent speaker and presenter at conferences locally and nationally, Guy is known for his commitment–both in the trenches and at the table–to fostering clean, healthy and safe communities through innovative policy, education and workforce initiatives. Over the years, he has gained the respect of people at all walks of life, from residents of Detroit to policy makers in Lansing and community leaders across the country, making him a powerful change agent.

Guy has been involved in all the significant green initiatives in Detroit. He continues to be at the crossroads of energy, water, jobs, safety, air, green technology, recycling, land use, community, and more–all the while mentoring the next generation.
